Governing Board Meeting

The Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board Annual Meeting (SSTGB) will be held on September 15-17, 2015 at The Brown Hotel, Louisville, Kentucky.  Member state and non-member state officials, legislators and the business community are invited to attend.  The Governing Board strongly encourages the attendance of each member state’s appointed legislative delegate(s).

The evening reception will be held on Tuesday, September 15 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, after the State and Local Advisory Council (SLAC) Meeting.  If you plan to attend only the Wednesday and Thursday Governing Board Meetings, please plan to arrive on Monday in time to board motorcoach transportation at 5:30 pm to enjoy the Kentucky Derby Museum and Churchill Downs.  Additional details regarding the reception are provided later in this message

Businesses who are non-members of the Business Advisory Council (BAC) may email Fred Nicely, FNicely@cost.org to obtain information on becoming members.  Businesses that join the BAC prior to the meeting, after having pre-registered as non-members will receive the $75.00 registration fee refund upon request.

AGENDA ITEMS

If you would like to have specific items on the Governing Board Meeting agenda, including proposed amendments to the SSUTA or Rules, please contact craig.johnson@sstgb.org no later than Friday, August 14.  The final agenda will be noticed 30-days prior to the meeting.  The Governing Board will discuss the status of Federal Legislation related to providing the states remote seller collection authority along with possible amendments to the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA) and Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board Rules related to compliance and sanctions, best and disclosed practices and excluding federal taxes from the definition of “sales price.”

 PUBLICATION

The final versions of the documents to include in the meeting publication must be emailed to Craig Johnson no later than Friday, August 28.  If the deadline is missed you should bring at least 120-copies of the document to the meeting for distribution.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS

Call the Hotel at 502-583-1234 or (877) 926-7757 for transfer to reservations.  It is important to reference the Streamlined Sales Tax Meeting room block code to receive the reduced rates.  Reservation made by a travel agent do not typically receive the discounted room block rate.

* Club level reservations have room key access to the Private Club Lounge for daily complimentary continental breakfast, evening appetizers and cocktails. 

Room block cut-off deadline, August 31, 2015.  It is important to reserve your guest room before the room block release deadline.  Please consider reserving a room before travel approval is obtained as the Hotel will fill up quickly.  You may cancel the reservation 72-hrs. prior to check-in for any reason or if travel is not approved. 

Check-in 4:00 pm and check-out at 11:00 am.  You may call reservations directly to request an early check-in prior to arrival or schedule a late check-out prior to departure, however availability may be limited.  Based on availability, reservations for guest rooms 3-days pre and 3-days post meeting dates will receive the discounted rate. 

Reservations must be made on an individual basis.  Individual credit card must be provided to guarantee the reservation.  Reservations made after the August 31 room block release deadline will only receive the discounted rate based on guest room availability.  In order to meet the contractual room block requirement, please do not make reservations on The Brown Hotel website, Expedia.com, TripAdvisor.com, Orbitz.com, Hotel.com or others websites. 

CANCELLATION

Reservations may be cancelled 72-hours prior to the date of arrival.  No shows are subject to a cancellation fee equal to the 1-night stay.  SSTGB Meeting registration cancellations, less than 5-days prior to September 15, may be subject to a cancellation fee equal to the non-refundable catering costs.

AIRPORT

Louisville International Airport (SDF) located approximately 9-miles from The Brown Hotel. 

HOTEL AIRPORT SHUTTLE

The Hotel provides complimentary shuttle service transportation from/to the Louisville Airport on demand.  Once your flight lands call 502-583-1234 to ask for the bell stand for shuttle service pick-up.  The black van with The Brown Hotel written in Gold will pick-up in Ground Transportation.  You must schedule your airport shuttle departure time at the bell stand at least 24-hours in advance. 

PARKING

Onsite hotel garage parking is located between Third and Fourth Street, connected to the Hotel via the pedestrian walk way.  Self-parking cost is reduced for the attendees at $12 per night and valet parking discounted at $18.00 per night.  Only parking billed to your guest room will have in-out privileges at any time with no additional charge. 

DINING

The Brown Hotel is home to Louisville’s most exceptional and memorable dining experiences from premier fine dining in the English Grill to the elegance of J. Graham’s Café to the glamour of the Lobby Bar open 3:00 pm to 1:30 am.  Countless restaurants and night life are located in walking distance in downtown Louisville.   

RECEPTION (Note: Due to availability of the Kentucky Derby Museum, the reception will be held on Tuesday evening (the night prior to the start of the Governing Board meeting so please plan to arrive on Tuesday by 5:00 pm)

All registered attendees are invited to enjoy the evening reception at the esteemed Kentucky Derby Museum with access to all exhibits.  Registered attendees will receive two (2) complimentary drink tickets at the onsite meeting registration for the purchase of soft drinks, beer or wine.  Hors d’oeuvres and cash bar will be provided in the Great Hall reception space and you may also enjoy the Oak Garden Terrace.  Drink tickets for cocktails will be sold next to the cash bar.  A 15-minute high definition video of “The Greatest Race” will be shown on the big screen and The Finish Line Gift Shop will be open until 8:00 pm for souvenirs!  Please feel free to dress casually!  Special thanks to the reception host, 2016 incoming President Richard Dobson (KY).  Also, thank you to the Business Advisory Council (BAC) and Fast Enterprises for providing joint sponsorship with the SSTGB. 

CHURCHILL DOWNS GUIDED WALKING TOURS (Reply Required)

On arrival to the reception you may participate in a 20-30 minute historic walking tour of Churchill Downs wherethe world renown Kentucky Derby has been run by thoroughbreds every year since 1875.  Known as The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports, the oldest horse race in the U.S. and the first race of Triple Crown.  Learn about past Derby winners and the rich history of this location.  Guests will walk through the property to the paddock and out to the grandstand learning trivia and fun facts along the way and you will see the resident miniature horse, Winston who is only 34 inches tall.  Two (2) non-race season guided tours accommodate 50-participants each, are scheduled at 6:00 and 6:30 pm.  Please email sharon.tolbert-white@sstgb.org as soon as possible to schedule your tour by the end of August!  If you miss the deadline, be sure to check back for availability.  Bring your camera and pack those walking shoes! 

MOTOR COACH TRANSPORTATION

On the Broadway side of The Brown Hotel before the awning will be two 55-passenger Miller Transportation motor coaches to board passengers at 5:25 pm and departing at 5:40 pm.  Return transportation from The Derby Museum is scheduled for pick-up at your choice of 8:00, 8:30 and 9:15 pm.  Directionshttp://www.derbymuseum.org/ for those  driving to the Kentucky Derby Museum, 704 Central Avenue, Louisville, KY 40208.
