Certified Service ProvidersTM (CSPTM)

The following providers are certified by the Streamlined Sales Tax™ Governing Board.

The following CSP's systems are certified by the Streamlined Sales Tax States, but they are not currently offering free services under Streamlined's CSP program.

What is a Certified Service Provider (CSP)

A CSP is an agent certified under the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement to perform all the seller's sales and use tax functions, other than the seller's obligation to remit tax on its own purchases. A CSP is designed to allow a business to outsource most of its sales tax administration responsibilities.

The CSP should not charge a seller for the CSP services for any Streamlined member state in which the seller meets the definition of “CSP-compensated seller” as defined in Section D.2 of the CSP contract. The Streamlined member states compensate the CSP for providing the CSP services described below for those member states in which the seller meets the definition of “CSP-compensated seller.”

The software system of a CSP interfaces with the seller's accounting system to:

  1. identify which products and services are taxable,
  2. apply the appropriate tax rate, and
  3. maintain a record of the transaction.

The CSP will also provide the services necessary to:

  1. set-up and integrate the CSP's software with the seller's system,
  2. prepare and file the required tax returns,
  3. remit the tax to each of the Streamlined member states,
  4. resolve any notices or audits by any Streamlined member states, and
  5. protect the privacy of the tax information it obtains.

Each Streamlined full member, contingent member, and associate member state has certified the accuracy of the software and will provide liability relief for incorrect tax calculation based on that certification.

The Streamlined member states pay for the CSP software and services for any seller for those member states in which the seller meets the definition of "CSP-Compensated seller" (See CSP Contract, Section D.2.(b) page 7).

A CSP may provide services in addition to those listed above.

Interested in Contracting with a CSP?

Before you register contact the CSP and/or review the CSPs website to determine which CSP will work best for you. The CSP will work with you to determine when the CSP will begin providing services to your company.  The CSP will register your company when you and the CSP agree the CSP will begin providing CSP services.

Note: If you are required to collect and remit taxes in a state before the date the CSP will begin providing services, you can register through the Streamlined Sales Tax Registration System (SSTRS) at anytime. The CSP will update your account when their services begin. You are responsible for collecting the tax and filing the returns until the CSP begins providing services to you.
